DJOKOVIC WINS

Novak Djokovic has defeated David Ferrer of Spain in his first match in the Mubadala Tennis Championship on Friday. Djokovic won the match in the straight sets by 6-0, 6-3. With this win, Djokovic has reached the final of the tournament.

Djokovic had got a bye in the first round, so, he directly played the semi final. He looked in amazing touch and just thrashed Ferrer. Djokovic had won this tournament in the last season as well and the way he has started this time around, it seems that it would be very difficult to stop him from defending the title. He took almost an hour to win the match and knock Ferrer out of the competition.

Djokovic started the match in an aggressive fashion and he didn’t let Ferrer win even a single game in the first set. He broke Ferrer’s service thrice in the first set and won the set by 6-0.

In the second set, Ferrer played a bit better, but, still, he still didn’t manage to give a tough fight to Djokovic. The world no. 1 got a couple of breakthroughs in the second set as well and wrapped up the match by winning the second set by 6-3.

After winning the match, Djokovic said, “I love to play here. The conditions over here are amazing. The weather is neither too cold nor too hot and the surface is fantastic as well.

“Frankly speaking, I had expected myself to be a bit rusty as it’s my first game of the season. But, surprisingly, I hit the ball as fluently as ever.”

In the final match, Djokovic will take on Nicolas Almagro of Spain. Almagro made his way into the final by defeating the Serbian no. 2 Janko Tipsarevic by 2-6, 7-6(7/3), 6-2.

Djokovic didn’t lose any match in the entire tournament. He won all three of his Round Robin matches. In the semi final match, he got better of the tall Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. In the final match, he had to face the Swiss Maestro Federer and the match was supposed to be a close one. The match did turn out to be a close one, but, at the end, it was Djokovic who held his nerves and won this big event.

Djokovic played a total of 87 matches in this season out of which he won 75 and lost 12. Djokovic’s performance in the previous season was a bit better than this. He had won 78 matches in the previous season and had been defeated only on 7 occasions.

In this season, Djokovic won a total of 6 titles including Australian Open. He also lost 5 finals. The victories in those finals would have taken his title tally to 11. Overall, it was another fantastic season for the Serbian tennis superstar.

After winning the final match against Roger Federer, Djokovic said, “My father is not well. He is struggling with his health and he was my motivation today. I wanted to win this tournament for him and I am happy that I managed to do that.”

“Finishing the second consecutive season as the world no. 1 is really something amazing. I had lost the last two matches against Federer. So, I was under a bit of pressure. The first set was a bit tight, but, after pulling it off in the tie breaker, I got relieved.”

DJOKOVIC THROUGH FIRST ROUND

Novak Djokovic has defeated Michael Berrer of Germany in the first round of the China Open. Djokovic won the match by 6-1, 6-7(3), 6-2. Even after winning the match, Djokovic didn’t look happy with his performance. In the post match interview, he said, “I made a lot of mistakes in the match and it was not one of my best performances. I should have played much better than this.”

“Berrer played well in the second set and especially in the tie breaker, he just nailed it. I was disappointed after losing the second set, but, I played with a cool mind in the final set and pulled it off.”

Djokovic was on fire in the opening set of the match.  He broke Berrer’s service twice and won the first set easily by 6-1. But, in the second set, Djokovic wasn’t able to pounce on the opportunities that he got. The Serbian player got three breakpoints, but, he didn’t latch on any of them. The next four games went with the serve. Berrer badly needed a breakthrough in the eighth game, but, he got panicked and Djokovic got another breakpoint.
