DJOKOVIC WINS

Novak Djokovic has defeated David Ferrer of Spain in his first match in the Mubadala Tennis Championship on Friday. Djokovic won the match in the straight sets by 6-0, 6-3. With this win, Djokovic has reached the final of the tournament.

Djokovic had got a bye in the first round, so, he directly played the semi final. He looked in amazing touch and just thrashed Ferrer. Djokovic had won this tournament in the last season as well and the way he has started this time around, it seems that it would be very difficult to stop him from defending the title. He took almost an hour to win the match and knock Ferrer out of the competition.

Djokovic started the match in an aggressive fashion and he didn’t let Ferrer win even a single game in the first set. He broke Ferrer’s service thrice in the first set and won the set by 6-0.

In the second set, Ferrer played a bit better, but, still, he still didn’t manage to give a tough fight to Djokovic. The world no. 1 got a couple of breakthroughs in the second set as well and wrapped up the match by winning the second set by 6-3.

After winning the match, Djokovic said, “I love to play here. The conditions over here are amazing. The weather is neither too cold nor too hot and the surface is fantastic as well.

“Frankly speaking, I had expected myself to be a bit rusty as it’s my first game of the season. But, surprisingly, I hit the ball as fluently as ever.”

In the final match, Djokovic will take on Nicolas Almagro of Spain. Almagro made his way into the final by defeating the Serbian no. 2 Janko Tipsarevic by 2-6, 7-6(7/3), 6-2.

DJOKOVIC WINS

Novak Djokovic has won the ATP World tour finals 2012 by defeating Roger Federer in the final match. Djokovic defeated Federer in the straight sets by 7-6(6), 7-5. With this victory, Djokovic has ended the season as the no. 1 player in the world.

Djokovic didn’t lose any match in the entire tournament. He won all three of his Round Robin matches. In the semi final match, he got better of the tall Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. In the final match, he had to face the Swiss Maestro Federer and the match was supposed to be a close one. The match did turn out to be a close one, but, at the end, it was Djokovic who held his nerves and won this big event.

Djokovic played a total of 87 matches in this season out of which he won 75 and lost 12. Djokovic’s performance in the previous season was a bit better than this. He had won 78 matches in the previous season and had been defeated only on 7 occasions.

In this season, Djokovic won a total of 6 titles including Australian Open. He also lost 5 finals. The victories in those finals would have taken his title tally to 11. Overall, it was another fantastic season for the Serbian tennis superstar.

After winning the final match against Roger Federer, Djokovic said, “My father is not well. He is struggling with his health and he was my motivation today. I wanted to win this tournament for him and I am happy that I managed to do that.”

“Finishing the second consecutive season as the world no. 1 is really something amazing. I had lost the last two matches against Federer. So, I was under a bit of pressure. The first set was a bit tight, but, after pulling it off in the tie breaker, I got relieved.”

DJOKOVIC THROUGH FIRST ROUND

Novak Djokovic has defeated Michael Berrer of Germany in the first round of the China Open. Djokovic won the match by 6-1, 6-7(3), 6-2. The Serbian superstar knocked Berrer out of the tournament in almost 2 hours. This was the second match between these two players and Djokovic is yet to lose any match against Berrer.

Even after winning the match, Djokovic didn’t look happy with his performance. In the post match interview, he said, “I made a lot of mistakes in the match and it was not one of my best performances. I should have played much better than this.”

“Berrer played well in the second set and especially in the tie breaker, he just nailed it. I was disappointed after losing the second set, but, I played with a cool mind in the final set and pulled it off.”

Djokovic was on fire in the opening set of the match.  He broke Berrer’s service twice and won the first set easily by 6-1. But, in the second set, Djokovic wasn’t able to pounce on the opportunities that he got. The Serbian player got three breakpoints, but, he didn’t latch on any of them. There was not even a single breakthrough in the second set and the set went into the tie breaker. In the tie breaker, Djokovic was outplayed by Berrer. The German player won the tie breaker comfortably and came back into the match.

But, in the third set, Berrer played some ordinary shots. Djokovic got a breakthrough in the second game and the scorecard was saying 3-0 in the favour of Djokovic at the end of the third game. The next four games went with the serve. Berrer badly needed a breakthrough in the eighth game, but, he got panicked and Djokovic got another breakpoint. Djokovic was not going to miss that opportunity. He took advantage of that breakpoint and finished the match.

In the second round, Djokovic will take on Carlos Berlocq of Argentina.

SAPPI SENT HOME

The Serbian superstar, Novak Djokovic, has defeated Andreas Sappi of Italy in the second round of the Western and Southern Open at Cincinnati. Djokovic won the match with ease. It took him just 90 minutes to thrash Sappi in the straight sets by 7-6(4), 6-2. Djokovic looked a bit rusty at the start of the match and he was not hitting the ball that well in the first few games. But, as the match progressed, he settled into his groove and played some delightful forehand shots. With this victory, Djokovic has made his way to the third round where he will play against Nikolay Davydenko of Russia.

In the first set, Djokovic was given a very tough fight by Sappi. The Italian player didn’t allow Djokovic to get even a single breakthrough in the first set. At the end of the 12th game, the scores were tied at 6-6 and the set went into the tie breaker. Djokovic made a very good start to the tie breaker and won the first two points. He maintained that lead till the end of the tie breaker and won the first set by 7-6. In the second set, Djokovic looked a different layer altogether. Both the players held their service in the first two games of the second set and the scores were levelled at 1-1 at the end of the second game. Djokovic broke Sappi’s service in the 3rd and the 5th game and won the next 4 games in a row to make the score 5-1. The Italian player held his service in the 7th game, but, that was too little, too late. Djokovic served out the next game to wrap up the match.

Djokovic didn’t serve any double fault and smashed 3 aces in the match. Djokovic had got a bye in the first round, so, this was his first match of the competition. In the post match interview, the Serbian player said that he has arrived here pretty late and didn’t have much practice before the match. So, it took him some time to get adapted to the conditions here. Hopefully, he would perform better in the further matches.

OUT IN QUARTERS

Novak Djokovic has defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in the quarter final of Men’s tennis singles tournament of London Olympics. Djokovic won the match in the straight sets by 6-1, 7-5. Djokovic, who has been given the second seed in this competition, has secured a place in the final four with this victory. He took just 1 hour and 20 minutes to knock Tsonga out of the competition.

Djokovic played with a lot of aggression right from the start of the match. He got a breakthrough in the second game of the first set to take a 2-0 lead. He held his service in the next game to make the score 3-0. Djokovic again got a breakthrough in the sixth game and won the first set easily by 6-1. However, in the second set, the Serbian superstar didn’t start that well. He lost the first three games and was trailed by 0-3. But, Djokovic showed his class after that and lifted his game. He broke the service of Tsonga in the 11th game and finally, won the set by 7-5.

After the match, Djokovic told the reporters that he is very happy with his performance today. As per Djokovic, Tsonga was playing brilliantly from the baseline, so, it was very important to serve well against him. He said that the conditions were not easy and it was pretty windy out there. Djokovic will play against the local superstar Andy Murray in the semifinal. Murray is in fine form and he thrashed Nicolas Almagro of Spain in the straight sets by 6-4, 6-1 in the quarter final. On being asked about that match, Djokovic said that it would be quite tough to play against Murray infront of his home crowd. He would have to be at his best to beat Murray in the semifinal.

TIPSAREVIC MAKES SEMIS

Janko Tipsarevic has defeated Marcel Granollers of Spain in the quarter final of the Rogers Cup. With this victory, the Serbian player has secured a berth in the final 4. The match was pretty much one sided and the Spaniard didn’t manage to break Tipsarevic’s service even once in the whole match. Tipsarevic won the match in the straight sets by 6-4, 6-4.

Tipsarevic, who has been given fifth seed in the competition, was playing his second match of the day. Earlier in the day, he had defeated Marin Cilic of Germany in the third round. Winning two matches on the same day is not an easy task and the ease, with which Tipsarevic did it, shows that he is in tremendous form at the moment. Read more »
