Djokovic Admits Federer Deserves Top Spot
Former Wimbledon Gentlemen’s champion Novak Djokovic admitted that Swiss Master Roger Federer would be the deserving winner if he manages to beat British tennis star Andy Murray on Sunday, the 8th of July to claim what would be his 7th Wimbledon crown, equaling the record set by Pete Sampras, the American tennis legend.
Moreover, the 16 time Grand Slam winner will also reclaim the top spot in the ATP rankings with a win at the All England Club, a position that he held for record time but was last number one in May 2010.
And Djokovic, who lost to the Swiss Maestro in the semi final of Wimbledon, has stated that there is only one man who deserves to be at the top of the rankings based on current form and that man is Federer.
It seems ironic that Novak Djokovic is on the verge of relinquishing the top spot after Wimbledon, as he had been the world number one after his victory at the All England Club in the final against Spaniard Rafael Nadal last year.
But The Djoker, who was thoroughly outclassed by FedEx in the semi final in four sets, has no regrets about losing his top spot, and even says that he made Federer one of his tennis betting tips before the tournament started.
According to Djokovic, it was extremely foolish of the experts and fans to write off Federer, especially since his last Grand Slam title came as recently as the 2010 Australian Open. Djokovic also admitted that Federer has been playing wonderful tennis this season, he has been consistent, fit and on top of his game and if he manages to win his 7th title at Wimbledon, he will be the happiest person on earth.
Novak Djokovic also added that Federer had been losing close matches over the last years but it seems that he is back to his elegant best once again. According to the latest US Open odds Djokovic has a great chance of winning, and going straight back to number one.
